If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? I’ve thought about that question on many occasions over the course of my life. Someone asked it in a science class eons ago and the concept completely captivated and intrigued me. So I know you’re probably wondering, “what in the world does this have to to with advertising?”. Or maybe you’re a smart cookie and you’ve already gotten my point.

The industry of online network marketing is available to everyone and anyone who wants to participate. This industry is wide open and ready for any entrepreneur who is willing to do the work necessary to win. But online network marketing is not just about working hard and it’s not even just about working smart. The fact is that online network marketing is primarily about MARKETING or ADVERTISING your business, your product or your service.

Considering the tree falling in the forest, maybe it makes a sound, maybe it doesn’t, but if no one is around to hear it, then WHO KNOWS? It’s like working with a phenomenal business. You know that what you have is the best, it’s worked for you and thousands of others in the past, but if you’re yelling at the top of your lungs about your opportunity and no one is around to hear you, or if you’ve written a phenomenal article and no one has seen it then… you get my point. You’re just like that tree in the forest generating tons of energy while falling, but producing nothing that anyone else can experience or benefit from.

It doesn’t end there. Let’s say that I’ve gotten the concept down that I need to have an audience in order for my “sound” to be heard. Got it!… So now, I embark on a path of learning, acquiring knowledge that you would not believe… extraordinarily awesome information… phenomenal tools… systems out of this world… and I decide that before I present a single “sound” to my audience I’ve got to get it just right. I continue to fine tune my sound while never playing a single note to the audience. The result: me — the tree in the forest — with no one around.

Advertising in this industry requires that we make “noise”. We have to share what we have with the masses. Advertising does NOT require that we “get it right”. Some of the most memorable methods of advertising are the “dumbest” (and yet the smartest) pieces I’ve ever seen. Do you remember (if you’re old enough), “where’s the beef?” or “it’s 5 o’clock… it’s time to make the doughnuts!”… if you Google those phrases you still get those associations to Wendy’s and Dunkin’ Donuts. How did they do it? They each launched a campaign, a crusade, an all out effort to win the business of consumers all over the continent. Dictionary.com has one definition that defines a campaign as “a systematic course of aggressive activities for some specific purpose: a sales campaign”.

The bottom line is that advertising requires, once again, consistent, intentional, deliberate action in order for it to be effective. It doesn’t matter how strong you are and it doesn’t matter how smart you are. What matters is how consistent you are. In the words of Winston Churchill, “Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking our potential”. It’s also the key to successfully marketing and advertising in this industry.

Make a decision to today to reach as many people as you can and advertise!
